angry birds
artist statement
The "angry birds" series is a raw and powerful exploration of the multifaceted experiences of in a world rife with inequality, disempowerment, sexualization, and unbalanced societal expectations. This body of work emerges from my journey through art therapy, where I confronted the disadvantages and traumas that have shaped my identity as a woman.
Each piece in this series captures the deep emotions tied to the disempowerment faced by women, who are often labelled as "too much" or "too aggressive," or confined to reductive stereotypes such as "bossy," "caretaker," or "temptress." It delves into the pervasive issue of harassment in the workplace and the insidious lies about love that little girls are sold narratives that suggest there is only one way to live.
The "angry birds" series also looks at the cost of beauty that comes with strings attched and desires to possess, control, own, or contain. The unseen tears and unheard screams reflect the forced disguises women"angry birds" swallow the lesser share while protecting themselves from what lurks in the shadows, eager to take a piece of their spirit.
angry birds
in a world where whispers turn to roars,
where shadows cast by ancient lore,
women rise; their spirits soar,
breaking chains forevermore.
from the depths of silence, voices bloom,
in colours bright, dispelling gloom.
a tapestry of strength and doom,
crafted in a vibrant room.
fierce birds with wings spread wide,
shattering chains that once denied.
in vibrant art, their whispers hide—
silent truths they cannot bide.
they sing of battles fought and won,
of innocence stolen beneath the sun.
in every stroke, a tale begun—
of trauma faced and strength spun.
for every girl who's felt the sting
of labels that the world might bring,
these birds of anger take to wing;
a song of hope they boldly sing.
so gaze upon this vivid flight—
in hues of dark and beams of light.
in my creations, find your might,
and join the chorus for what's right.
